Of these, 57 medical colleges are privately managed, 232 are managed by the Government and 250 are managed by trusts or societies.

With this infrastructure, India can admit upto 68004 students every year for the MBBS course. The quality of these colleges are controlled by the Medical Council of India, which conducts regular inspections and grants approvals for courses & intakes.
